Generational Battles – Part I

A letter to parents and older generations.

Young people are falling into potholes because the ones before them never took the time to pave the roads.

War wounds and battle scars happen when you fight through and go against adversity.  When your children don’t see those scars, they can neither depend on you, nor look to you for the strength needed to fight similar battles.  As a result, your children then believe they must fend for themselves. When you decide to hide your flaws, you eliminate your opinions, advice, and credibility for handling tough situations that your children may be facing.  Battle scars tell you about the battle – how hard the fight was, how long the battle took, the hardest moments, how you gained the victory, and how you defeated your oppressors.  Scars also lead to an explanation of what caused the battle and the initial influences. To put it simply, battle scars tell the story of a struggle through the soldier’s memories, including their strengths and weaknesses.

Sharing these stories can help young people recognize the same battles in their life. As they become familiar with every minute of your trials, battles, and obstacles, it helps them to foresee problems and avoid them.
